Meet Your King

A Weary World Rejoices
"A Weary World Rejoices" is a well known lyric from the song O Holy Night written by French poet Placide Cappeau in 1847. It is a proclamation of the birth of Jesus. A sinful world rejoices as a “thrill of hope” is born this night to save us from our sin or so the song implies.
But who is Jesus born this Holy Night? History would record his name as Yeshua ben Yosef (Hebrew) meaning Jesus, son of Joseph. Others would call him Christ, the Anointed One.
Does the birth of this baby Jesus fulfill the prophecies of the Old Testament?
As early as Genesis 3:15 the prophecy is revealed, the Lord God says to the serpent,

“I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers,
He will crush your head and you will strike his heel”.
Is the baby Jesus the one who will crush Satan’s head? Later in Genesis God tells Abram, that all peoples on earth will be blessed through you. Is Jesus the blessing God speaks of? The gospel of Matthew details in great lengths that the ancestry of Jesus dates back to King David and eventually back to Abram, who later was known as Abraham the father of Isaac. Samuel & Jeremiah foretell of a King who will reign on David’s throne forever. Is Jesus that King? Daniel 7:13 & 14 echoes the same, a King who will be given authority, glory and sovereign power over all nations, an everlasting dominion that will not pass away and a kingdom that will never be destroyed.
“For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.” Isaiah 9: 6 & 7
“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks by night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angle said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a savior has been born to you; He is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you; you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.’” Luke 2: 8-12
If what the angel has said is true, the prophecies have been fulfilled! The baby born in Bethlehem is the King who will reign on David’s throne and establish peace throughout the earth. The shepherds confirmed the angel’s story. Born this night is the King of all kings, the Lord of all lords, Jesus the Christ child, born to restore man’s relationship with his creator. A weary world rejoices for salvation has come to man;
Immanuel, God with us.
